Author Visits Ifor Bach
Ian Whybrow

Pupils at the newly opened Ysgol Ifor Bach in   Abertridwr have had a special visit from popular   children’s author Ian Whybrow, best known for his ‘ Harry and the Dinosaur’ books.

The visit, organised by Caerphilly County Borough   Council’s Schools Library Service, marked the official   opening of the library facilities at the impressive new   school building. To celebrate this special occasion   many of the pupils and staff dressed up as characters   from their favourite books.

Headteacher, Sarah Edmunds gave the author a tour of Ysgol Ifor Bach’s new   facilities and Ian said he was very impressed by the new school and very interested in   the history of the local area.

Ysgol Ifor Bach has been constructed on the old Windsor Colliery site in Abertridwr   and provides local children with an impressive state-of-the-art school in a central   location in the Aber Valley. The building, which houses over 240 pupils, boasts eight   classrooms, a nursery and well-equipped facilities.

Ian was delighted by the friendly welcome given to him and has offered to make a   return visit to Caerphilly in the near future.
