TAKING THE BISCUIT

Taking the Biscuit

  The youngsters from the Aber Valley enjoyed   Jamie Oliver style cooking lessons from   Brookes Avana based in Rogerstone.David   and Marcus – pastry Chefs from Brookes   Avana visited the YMCA and SYDIC over the   February Half Term.

  10 lucky youngsters in two teams Red   Tomatoes and Green peppers worked with   the Chefs to produce their own bourbon biscuits, weighing kneading, rolling and   cutting out the biscuits.

  HALF TIME – While the biscuits baked the young people took part in a food quiz and   demonstrated their  knowledge on all things foody.Biscuits cooled and icing bags at   the ready they decorated the biscuits in an assortment of colours.

  The youngsters aged between 11 and 16 years took the prepared ingredients with a   recipe card to try at home with all the family.

  The second pahase of this project will be a follow visit to Brookes Avana to see the   variety of careers available in the plant from Master Baker to Mechanical Technicians.

  Brookes Avana part of the Premier Food company based in Risca have lead the way   in showing how businesses can work in partnership with the local community to help   regenerate the area and become a successful part of the CF programme.
